South America Travel – Peru To Brazil?

I am planning a trip to South America in 2008. The plan is to do the inca trail. After that will go to Cusco. Then i would like to get to Manaus in Brazil straight after. Can anyone advise on a route between Cusco and Manaus? I don’t want to spend long getting there, at the most i have one day to stop somewhere inbetween. Also trying to do this in an inexpensive way. I would appreciate any advice on the best method of transport and route between these places. Thanks.

  1. If you are trying to get from Cusco to Manaus in 1 / 2 days then I think that really fight – especially if you're trying to do it cheap.
I know a previous poster mentioned the following path:
      – Cusco to Puerto Maldonado (flight)
      – Puerto Maldonado to Brasiléia (taxi / collective)
      – Brasiléia Rio Branco (taxi / collective)
      – Manaus to Rio Branco (flight)
and I think this would be your cheapest route (depending on the cost of the Rio Branco-Manaus flight. A far more interesting route, however, would be flying Cusco-Lima-Iquitos and then by speedboat to the Amazon Tabatinga / Leticia. From here you can fly to Manaus or to the boat by the river – take the last 4 days, however.
Either way, make sure you have your yellow fever certificate or immigration Brazilian will wait and do it at the border – which in reality can officially turn back, but in practice this rarely happens. However, if you're in a hurry, it's something you should know.
      I hope this helps,

Wow, the two places to be visited. I plan to go to Salvador de Bahia and next year the city of Cusco.
I looked at my travel guide and the Manaus airport, only flights within the country. You will have to fly to Peru to Belem and travel by air or bus from Manaus to Belem.

  4. I will tell u what I did when my friend went from Manaus to Cuzco, I guess u can only do the opposite:
Manaus to Rio Branco by plane from Rio Branco took a bus to the bus station (bcoz it is much cheaper and bus) to get a taxi there to the bus station until Brasiléia. (stopped there to take your passport checked) of Brasiléia until Iñapari taxi and checked again the passport. Another taxi to Puerto Maldonado and there came a flight to Cusco. . . . There are some details about this trip to get more advice ok? ie, money, security. . .

  5. I, m, close to it.
