we like to go to australia too, but not sure if we have enough money.

  1. is hardly enough if backpack on a shoe string. you can get by with usd1000/month/person/country backpacking in Thailand, Nepal and Sri Lanka. About usd1200/month/person/country in India, China and Malaysia. About 1500/month/person dollars in S'pore. ie excluding air fares from one country to another.

      £ 4,000 = 10,786. 4 Singapore Dollar
      Assuming backpack, even if you are going to 6mths not think so. When you say Thailand, means Bangkok, Chiangmai, Phuket, Pattaya and the rest? When referring to Malaysia, are you referring to Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah (yet?), Ipoh, Penang, Malacca, etc.. . ? Worse for India and China. Do not think you can go to Australia.
      It is the amount of airfare? 30.000 pounds may be more likely.

      if you do not mind slumming you should have plenty. . . .
      theres plenty of places to stay for just a few dollars per night
      You should find a lot of people in his travels doing the same, you will get more information out of them.

  5. If all air tickets and hotel accommodations are paid and 4000 is the crux of spending money. then I could do if you are careful with their money. . . if that money is paying hotels, etc.. . Then you would struggle to survive with that amount for 6 months

  6. You can probably get cheaper once things are out there. Australia not.

  7. You must travel budget. Backpacking. Bed and breakfast. Tent. Bus. Walk. That sort of thing.
